Salvaging 'Chinook': A Remarkable Feat by Infinity Dive & Marine

In the challenging realm of maritime salvage, every operation presents a unique set of obstacles and demands expertise, precision, and teamwork. Recently, Infinity Dive & Marine undertook a particularly demanding assignment from Maritime NSW: the salvage of the yacht 'Chinook' from the treacherous rocks of Angourie, NSW. This project not only tested our capabilities but also showcased our commitment to excellence and safety in marine operations.

The Challenge:

'Chinook', a yacht stranded on the rocks, posed a significant logistical and environmental challenge. The location at Angourie, known for its rugged coastline and turbulent waters, required careful planning and execution to ensure both the vessel's recovery and minimal environmental impact.

Our Approach:

We deployed a comprehensive strategy that leveraged our specialized equipment and skilled personnel:

  1. Initial Assessment and Planning: Our team conducted a thorough assessment of the site and formulated a detailed salvage plan. This involved evaluating the condition of 'Chinook', assessing environmental risks, and determining the most effective approach to extraction.
  2. Utilization of Specialized Equipment: We employed a fleet of specialized work punts, a dedicated dive boat, and a powerful tow vessel to execute the operation. These assets were crucial in navigating the challenging waters and manoeuvring around the rocky coastline.
  3. Deployment of Commercial Divers: Experienced commercial divers played a pivotal role in rigging up lift bags and securing 'Chinook' for safe extraction. Their expertise ensured that the vessel was properly stabilized and ready for tow.
  4. Safe Transportation to Harwood Marine Slipway: Once 'Chinook' was successfully freed from the rocks, our team towed the vessel to Harwood Marine Slipway with utmost care and precision. This facility provided the necessary infrastructure to haul out and inspect the yacht.

Achievements and Environmental Stewardship:

The successful salvage of 'Chinook' not only highlighted our technical proficiency but also underscored our commitment to environmental stewardship. Throughout the operation, we implemented measures to minimize any potential environmental impact, ensuring that the delicate marine ecosystem of Angourie was safeguarded.

Conclusion:

The salvage of 'Chinook' stands as a testament to Infinity Dive & Marine’s capability, dedication, and expertise in maritime operations. We are proud to have collaborated with Maritime NSW and Northern Rivers Marine Services on this challenging project and are committed to continuing to deliver exceptional results in the field of marine salvage and recovery.
